Father, dearest?

“She scored the highest on her Biology exam”,

he boasts to the relatives;

I didn’t eat lunch father,

the bus ride back home was a struggle

friends at school called me a boy;

Since brother’s left,

i’ve been staring at his side of the bed

Sometimes, i wear his t-shirts

so i know he’s out there somewhere.

I want to read that novel

you’ve hidden,

i search for it every night after you’ve slept;

Mornings are scary,

i want to jump off the bus

but the wind feels so cold

i can barely breathe,

i’ve been thinking of joining a poetry class

but tennis lessons in the evening

drain me to the core;

I love evening walks,

watching the sunset paint hues across

mother sky;

i love the smell of the winter air

So cold yet so warm.

I rush back home hurriedly

to tell you of this magic

and you ask me,

Did you study well today;

Yes father, i did.
